Official Historical Marker Application
If you have a property or location that you believe qualifies as historically significant in Sussex Borough or Wantage Township, we encourage you to click on the PDF icon below,then print and fill out the application. Before mailing it, please call 973-864-7852 to discuss it to make sure it meets the criteria of an historic location.
Information:

Each Historical Marker measures 12” x 18” and is made of max metal.

The marker may be mounted directly on a building or on a signpost.

Each Historical Marker has holes for installation. One on top and one on the bottom for pole mount and one in each corner for building mount.

If your application is approved, the cost of the marker is $125.00 for the marker only or $175.00 for the marker, post and mounting hardware. In both cases, $33.00 is tax deductible on your Federal tax return.

Upon purchase and receipt, the marker becomes your property. You are responsible for installation, including researching any ROW (Right-of-Way) considerations by calling 811 “Call before you dig” for a mark out, and any ongoing maintenance after installation. The Sussex-Wantage Historical Society takes no responsibility for marker installation, and no product or installation warranty is given or assumed.

All application approval and denial decisions are at the sole discretion of the Sussex-Wantage Historical Society. If your application is denied, you may appeal the decision. Applicants are encouraged to contact SWHS in advance of submission to discuss. Calls are welcome.
